We asked our students what is transportation? They answered Cars! Buses! Trains! Bicycle! What mode of transportation do you always use to get from one place to another? Some of our students added eyes to the cars to give it some character! Once that is done, we decided to throw in ideas for the background! Some wanted Candyland! Halloween!
Last week’s Cartoon Drawing, our student came up with their own design for our very own mascot, Globbie! Throughout the session, the teachers shared with our students on how many Global Art centres are there worldwide and island wide. Many thought that there are only a few, but no, we have over 600 centres worldwide! Our students came up with a theme and designed their very own Globbie including a suitable background!

Minecraft is a sandbox video game developed by Majong Studios. In Minecraft, everything is 3D! You can discover and extract raw materials, build structures and simple machines! The game modes include a survival mode, in which players must acquire resources to build the world and maintain health. Many of our students played Minecraft and they enjoyed their drawing session last week as they get to be more involved in giving ideas to their classmates and teachers!
Mario is a character created by Japanese video game designer. Mario has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation. Mario is depicted as a fictional short, Italian plumber who resides in the Mushroom Kingdom. Super Mario started off as a 2D game and then it evolves to 3D which many of us saw on the internet or game consoles. There are many characters in this Super Mario world. From Princess Peach to Boo to Yoshi! Which ones are your favourite?

Universal Studio Singapore (USS) is a gigantic theme park located on Sentosa Island of Singapore which features 24 exhilarating rides with 7 theme zones! Even adults will go berserk in this theme park! After asking our students what kind of rides is their favourite one, most of them said Puss in Boots’ Giant Journey rollercoaster! Most of them saw Minions walking around the entrance of USS along with other characters like Elmo from Sesame Street and Mickey Mouse! What’s your favourite ride? Let us know!
Disneyland is an amusement park which first opened in California in 1955. It is the only one designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. Do you know that Disneyland has a larger cumulative attendance than any other theme park in the world? In 2018, the park had approximately 18.6 million visits, making it the second most visited amusement park in the world that year. There are 6 Disneylands altogether in the whole world! California, Florida, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Have you been to Disneyland? Tell us what are your favourite Disney characters!

When you hear the word Marvel or DC, what comes to your mind? Superheroes? Yes! Marvel and DC are 2 big comic industries which influenced into the movie industry too.
DC Comics first began in 1934, while Marvel started in 1939. DC Comics mainly featured Detectives Comics series while Marvel featured various superheroes like Captain America etc. DC Comic characters mostly had their powers from birth or from gods. For example; Superman who has Kryptonian right at birth, Wonder Woman; a daughter of Zues who has the divine power of the God of War Ares.
While Marvel characters features more realistic characters that can be partly explained by science. For example, Spider Man; through radioactive spider bites, Iron Man; a genius scientist who is a powerful hero with his suit. These are just some examples to differentiate between Marvel and DC characters! So, what are your favourite superheroes? Let us know!
Make Every Drop Count with Water Wally & Sally!
Water Wally is the name of the official Singapore Public Board #PUBsg mascot. He conveys messages about water conservation & usage to the public. While Water Sally, she travels the seven seas and witnesses many water crisis around the world and is eager to share her knowledge on water sustainability to the public together with his brother Wally.

You must be wondering why lions represents England, though lions are not native to that area. Well, back to the Norman dynasty, it was believed that it represents courage and strength. You can also mainly see the 3 lions on the shirt of football team.
Next, we have the bald eagle. The bald eagle has been the national bird of the United States since 1782. Bald eagles, like other eagles worldwide, had been seen by many as symbols of strength, courage, freedom and immortality for generations. And, unlike other eagles, the bald eagle was indigenous only to North America.

Last week’s cartoon drawing, our students venture out to India and Egypt! These 2 countries has a very significant animal that represents their country; Elephant and Camel! Did you know that Indian elephants can produce 99kg of dung per day? That’s because they spend up to 19 hours a day feeding themselves. They mainly feed on grasses, but large amount of tree bark, roots, leaves and small stems.
Do you know how many camels are there in Egypt currently? There are about 95,000 of them! Although that there are million more in Africa, camels in Egypt holds a significant, iconic part in Egyptian landscape. Camels are known for their endurance and ability to cope with the lack of water and heat. Despite that, they are still used for transportation and as a tourist attraction in the shadows of the pyramids.
Last week’s cartoon drawing, our students drew animals according to 2 countries, Japan and China. When we think of these 2 countries, what kind of animals pops up to your mind? Yes, you’re right! Deer and Panda! You can find mostly Sika Deer in Japan. Sika deer’s summer range is generally larger than its winter range. Sika deer have a white rump and white spots on their back.
The giant panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China, mainly in Sichuan, but also neighbouring Shaanxi and Gansu. As a result of farming, deforestation, and other development, the giant panda has been driven out of the areas. Did you know that wild pandas do not only feed on bamboos? They also occasionally eat meat, in a form of birds or fishes!

The Frog Prince is a fairy tale, best known through the Brothers Grimm’s written version; traditionally the first story in their collection. If you haven’t heard or read about Frog Prince, it is a tale involving the princess and the frog. The spoilt princess reluctantly befriends the Frog Prince, whom she met after dropping a golden ball into a pond under a tree, and the frog retrieves it for her in exchange for her friendship. The Frog Prince, who was under a wicked fairy’s spell, magically transforms back into a handsome prince.
Do you know that the original version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears does not feature the young girl’s name Goldilocks? In fact, it was an old woman with silver hair! After the original publication, the author and readers thought it was not very appealing to children, so he changed it to a young girl. It is in fact one of the oldest Nursey tales up till to this date! If you have yet to watch these 2 tales, you should! Great life lesson to pick up from these tales!
Have you heard/read the story of The Ugly Duckling and Pinocchio? These 2 are one of the older tales on earth! The Ugly Duckling is a Danish literary fairy tale by a Danish poet and author Hans Christian Anderson. It was first published on 11th November 1843. The tale has been adapted to various media including opera, musical and animated film!
On the other hand, Pinocchio is an Italian fictional character of children’s novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio which was published in 1883 by and Italian writer Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio is a cultural icon. He is one of the most reimagined characters in children’s literature. This story has been adapted into many media, notably the 1940 Disney film called Pinocchio. Do you know that Pinocchio is a combination of 2 Italian words? Pino (pine) and occhio (eye). If you have yet to watch these 2 tales, you should! Great life lesson to pick up from these tales!

Confectionaries are basically something sweet or chocolatey! It is also a place where sweets and chocolate are made or sold. It can be in many forms, like donuts, lollipops, cupcakes and more! Who doesn’t love sweet desserts right? For last week’s cartoon drawing, our students turned their sweets desserts to life!
Fast food! Who doesn’t love fast food right? But did you know why is it called fast food? It is because fast food is a type of mass-produced food designed with a strong priority of “speed service” compared to those in a fancy restaurant involved culinary science. Fast food was created as a commercial strategy to target busy commuters, travellers and workers who often did not have the time to sit down and wait for their meal. There are many fast food restaurants here in Singapore, like Mc Donald’s, Burger King, KFC, Subway, Jollibee and more! What is your favourite go-to fast food restaurant and what meal do you always order? Let us know!
Playing with toys can be an enjoyable means of training young children for life experiences. For instances, a small child may fold an ordinary piece of paper into an airplane shape and “fly it”. However, newer forms of toys are starting to come out, which includes interactive digital entertainment and smart toys. Some toys are also produced primarily as collectors’ items and are intended for display only. Share with us what are you kind of games and toys you are currently into!

Last week’s cartoon drawing is on Disney characters! So.. what exactly is Disney? Well, Disney was originally founded on October 16, 1923 by the brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney. They came up with a few production names and in 1986, they settled with The Walt Disney Company in 1986. We are pretty sure you can name a few characters! It ranges from old-school Mickey Mouse series to now, animated cartoon characters like the princesses and animals! Lets see what characters our students drew!

The outbreak of Covid-19 means that the best thing for not yourself but others is to stay at home sot keep yourself healthy, stop the spread of the virus, save lives and ease the pressure on healthcare workers. So how should you spend your time at home? How do you keep your mind occupied when you can’t go out? Instead of whiling away the hours scrolling through social media, (which has been shown to have negative impact on mental health) why not try something new? Hobbies are a great way to keep your mind and body healthy.
As we are students of the arts, you can spend your time practicing/enhancing/maintaining your skills through drawing or painting! Just get ready your scrapbook or canvas and start working on your creativity! There are tons of tutorials out there and you might surprise yourself with what you’re able to create.
Whilst playing video games all day is probably not the healthiest way to spend your time indoors, gaming has been shown to bring cognitive benefits, eg: multi-tasking, problem solving skills etc.. Do remember to pick the right game! There are games out there that has multi-players to hat you can enjoy it together with your families! Let us know what your favourite indoor hobbies are!

We’ve been locked up in our homes enough lately trying to avoid exposure to the coronavirus. It is time to make plans to get outside, get some fresh are and make some new memories. Do you know that when you get outside in nature, you consume more oxygen, which releases serotonin In your brain and allows your body to function less effort? Plus, it can also improve your blood pressure and digestion! There are a few outdoor hobbies that we could do in Singapore! Hiking, fishing, cycling/rollerblading at the beach or even go for a run at the park!
There are many types of comic characters out there. Ranging from Marvel superheroes to our ever so legend Archie comics. Comic books are still in trend especially to those who loves to read and at the same time appreciating the drawings in the book. Let us know what your few comic character favourites are!

Pokemon also known as Pocket Monsters in Japan, is a Japanese media franchise managed by The Pokemon Company. In Pokemon, humans, known as Pokemon Trainers, catch and train Pokemon to battle other Pokemon for sport. Our students drew out their favourite Pokemon during Cartoon Drawing session last week. Farm animals are kept for agricultural purposes. This includes domesticated animals such as cows, chickens and pigs. It is important to teach our students about farm animals and how farm work, for a variety of reasons; mainly to understand where their food comes from. Winter and Autumn are both cold seasons. In order to be cold ready, we can wear outerwear like coats, jackets, hats, scarves and gloves. Another thing that we can do to keep our body warmed up is to always drink hot beverages. In Singapore we do not have winter season, but you can enjoy snowy feeling in this part of Singapore called the Snow City! Let us know your snowy experience and how do you feel afterwards!
